Guide to the Sacraments
The following is offered as a quick guide to the sacramental rites of the Episcopal Church. Should you have any questions about any of the Church’s rites, please speak with Fr. Jason.
You may be wondering: What do you mean by sacraments? The Book of Common Prayer defines sacraments as outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as sure and certain means by which we receive that grace.
The Episcopal Church recognizes seven sacraments, Holy Eucharist, Baptism, Marriage, Unction, Reconciliation, Confirmation, and Ordination.
The Canons of our church welcome all baptized persons, regardless of their age or denominational affiliation to receive the Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion, Lords Supper, or Mass.
The rites of Reconciliation (Confession of sin) and Holy Unction (Anointing the sick with holy oil) are available upon request. The third Sunday of the month, during the 10:00 a.m. Healing service, we offer Holy Unction. If you would prefer, you are welcome to call Fr. Jason to set up an appointment for either sacrament.
Holy Baptism is offered throughout the year, with the exception of the seasons of Advent and Lent. Please contact Fr. Jason or the church office to establish a date.
The sacramental rite of Marriage is available upon request. Pre-marital counseling is required in the church. To receive a wedding customary, please call Fr. Jason or the church office.
In the event of impending death or death itself, please call Fr. Jason directly, so that the rites of the church may be offered.
St. Andrew’s also has Lay Eucharistic Ministers that offer the Eucharist to those in our faith community who are ill or homebound. Lay Eucharistic Ministers exercise this ministry under the oversight of Fr. Jason. Please call Fr. Jason or the church office if you are interested in receiving the Eucharist while recovering at home
