Choral Scholars Program

 


Audition and Eligibility


Eligibility

  •  All high school students, grades 9-12.

Audition

  • Scholars must prepare any short song of their choice that is no more than 3 minutes in length. Sheet music must be brought along for the pianist if accompaniment is required.

  • In addition, scholars will also be required to sight read a diatonic piece and present scales appropriate for their voice range.

  • The song may be presented in person, or it may be submitted via email or google drive and sent to music@standrewspasadena.com. However, sight-reading and scales must be done in person.

  • Auditions will be held in January 2023.

 

Program Details


Attendance and Participation

  • Scholars will be required to attend all weekly services and practices from February 1, 2023 through June 16, 2023.

  • Weeknight rehearsals are held on Thursdays from 7:00pm – 8:15pm. Dinner will be provided before the start of rehearsal. Students will be able to indicate any dietary restrictions.

  • Sunday morning services will be from 9:30am – 11:00am.

  • Holy Week will be from April 2, 2023 – April 9, 2023. Scholars will be required to be present:

    • Palm Sunday – April 2

    • Maundy Thursday – April 6

    • Good Friday – April 7

    • Easter Vigil – April 8

    • Easter Sunday – April 9

 

 

Summer Camp

There will be a summer camp June 5, 2023 through June 9, 2023. Scholars will participate as counselors for Vacation Bible school, teaching musical skills that they have learned throughout the program to children from the community, culminating in a children’s choir presentation on Sunday, June 11 during church service.

Scholars will also receive instruction in basic professional musicianship, covering topics such as theory, music history, piano proficiency, and vocal coaching.

End-of-program events

At the culmination of the program, scholars will have the opportunity to dress up and see the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra free of charge. In addition, there will be a farewell dinner for the scholars and their families and friends.

Honorarium

Scholars will be compensated for their time during this program, receiving:

  • $50 a week for regular services and rehearsals
  • $100 for Holy Week
  • $500 for summer camp attendance and participation

Online Portal

Communication and resources will be made available through the My Music Staff online portal. Scholars and their guardians will be given log-on information and will be able to see all events and practice dates, notes from rehearsal, attendance, and notifications.
