St. Andrew's News: Subject line: Cathedral Service today, Home Communion Sunday, Benediction next Thursday
January 19, 2021, 6:14 PM

Dear Brothers and Sisters of St. Andrew's,

I had the privilege of leading the noonday prayer service today as we commemorated the Feast of St. Wulfstan. The video is available at

As we did on Christmas Eve, we will once again make home communion kits available for worship this Sunday the 24th. Kits can be picked up tomorrow, Wednesday the 20th, between 12:00 and 4:00 or between 5:30 and 7:30. We can also deliver them to your home if you are unable to pick them up. Please email me at, or call me at 410-241-4838, to let me know how many people in your household will be participating.

We live stream our Sunday service at 10:00 am via our Facebook page, our YouTube channel and our website. We continue to stream the 8:00 service via Zoom. You may use Zoom by visiting, and you may access the audio stream by telephoning 301-715-8592 and using meeting ID 8953-863-6563, password 201189.

As the COVID case rate in Pasadena over the past 2 weeks is at 14.5%, the Bishop is requiring that we continue to refrain from gathering for in-person worship. We are blessed by the faithful labors of Don Durham and Mark Cox, by which we are able to participate from a distance.

Next Thursday the 28th we will celebrate the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament from 6:00-7:00, preceded by Evening Prayer at 5:30. Our guest homilist will be the Rev. Brit Frazier of All Saints', Chevy Chase. This service will be streamed via the same means as our 10:00 service.

On the third Sunday of each month we take up a special offering to address the needs of hungry people in our community. We collected $438 for our December Healing Sunday offering, which was given to the Baltimore International Seafarers Center. Our January Healing Sunday offering will be given to Caring Cupboard, which provides food for needy families in our area. You may make a special gift to the Healing Sunday offering by making a note on the memo line of your check or your electronic gift.

The Rector's Discretionary Fund enables me to work on the church's behalf to care for those in need in our community, and to support the needs of worthy ministries, as I am made aware of these needs. I am always glad to receive gifts to this fund (either electronically or by checks made out to St. Andrew's with Rector's Discretionary Fund on the memo line), especially at this time when need is increasing significantly. If you are facing job loss or a reduction in your family's income please don't hesitate to reach out to me personally.

The call of the disciples

by Malcolm Guite

He calls us all to step aboard his ship,

Take the adventure on this morning's wring,

Raise sail with him, launch out into the deep,

Whatever storms or floods are threatening.

If faith gives way to doubt, or love to fear,

Then, as on Galilee, we'll rouse the Lord,

For he is always with us and will hear,

And make our peace with his creative Word,

Who made us, loved us, formed us and has set

All his beloved lovers in an ark;

Borne upwards by his Spirit, we will float

Above the rising waves, the falling dark,

As fellow pilgrims, driven towards that haven,

Where all will be redeemed, fulfilled, forgiven.
